Perth, May 2, 2025 — In a major development that signals the beginning of a new era, the West Coast Eagles have confirmed the departure of two of their most influential players, midfielder Elliot Yeo and forward Jack Darling, ahead of the 2026 AFL season.
The club announced the decision in a press conference at Mineral Resources Park this morning, citing mutual agreement and a focus on long-term rebuilding as reasons for the separation.
“Both Elliot and Jack have been incredible servants of this football club,” said West Coast CEO Trevor Nisbett. “They’ve contributed enormously on and off the field. These decisions are never easy, but we believe this is the right step as we look toward the future.”
Yeo, a dual All-Australian and former club best and fairest winner, battled injury setbacks in recent years but remained a respected leader within the squad. Darling, one of the Eagles’ top all-time goal scorers and a key part of the 2018 premiership side, departs after over 270 games with the club.
Speculation has already begun around where the duo might end up. While retirement is a possibility, sources suggest both players may be open to offers from rival clubs or overseas ventures.
Coach Adam Simpson thanked the veterans for their impact: “Their legacy here is etched in history. We’ll miss their presence, but this opens doors for younger talent to step up.”
The Eagles are expected to be active during the off-season as they reshape their list in hopes of returning to finals contention.
