Despite its on-field struggles under first-year coach Sherrone Moore in 2024, Michigan received some excellent news on November 21.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, quarterback Bryce Underwood, the network’s No. 1 prospect in the 2025 class, has officially committed to playing for the Wolverines in a surprising flip.
Underwood’s NIL valuation was worth upwards of $10.5 million when USA Today reported Saturday that he would decline the offer to play in the SEC for coach Brian Kelly and LSU.
Underwood is from Belleville, Michigan, and has received offers from nearly every major Power Four school in the nation, including Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and many others.
Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy rips any Bryce Underwood doubters
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, took to social media immediately following the news in a typical Portnoy-like fashion.
“How’s everyone doing out there?” Portnoy asked while laughing into the camera. “QB No. 1. No. 1. Not in the town. Not in the District. Not in the state. QB No. 1 in the country. Recruit No. 1 in the country. We don’t do four-stars at Michigan. We do five stars. We do No. 1 recruits in the country. We do national champions. I told you I did it. Now everyone’s like, ‘Dave, how much were you involved?’ Listen, there’s a lot of other factors. I’m not gonna sprout from my mouth and to say this, that, the other thing. Was I involved in a call with the family? Are they lovely people? Did we pitch a plan? Of course we did. Did I know fat boy from Ohio State, big head was making fun of us this morning? Eating his words by dawn? Of course I did, because that’s what we do at Michigan. QB No. 1. It is great to be king.”
The Wolverines’ expectations have instantly become heightened entering next season. For now, though, only time will tell if Underwood works out. Connor Stalions was involved with his recruitment, meaning some investigations could be forthcoming.
