PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College basketball announced that junior Jason Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2025-26.
Edwards, a 6-1, 175-pound guard, played the 2024-25 season at Vanderbilt where he started 24 of the team’s 33 games and helped the team post a 20-13 mark and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament . Edwards led the team in scoring (562 points/17.0 ppg) and free throws made (143). He was second on the team in threes made (65) and free throw percentage (.831/143-172). Edwards ranked eighth in Southeastern Conference in scoring in overall action (17.0 ppg) and he was 13th in free-throw percentage (.831) and in three-point field goal percentage (.353/65-184). He recorded 10 games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 30-point effort versus TCU on December 8, 2024. For his efforts, he earned All-SEC Third Team honors.
Edwards spent the 2023-24 season at North Texas where he led the team in scoring (650 points/19.1 ppg) and threes (84). He shot 35.0 percent from three-point territory (84-240) and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line (138-171) in 34 games. He registered five games with 30 or more points, including a career-best of 37 points against Tulane on January 6, 2024. He was named First Team All-AAC. Edwards also received First Team NABC All-District accolades.
In 2022-23, Edwards attended Dodge City Community College where he scored 765 points (21.9 ppg) and sank 96 threes. He was the nation’s second leading scorer with 765 points and his 96 threes were the ninth most made in the nation. Edwards scored 20 or more points 23 times and registered 30 or more points four times. He shot 41 percent from three-point territory (96-236) and 78 percent from the free-throw line (139-178). He was named 2023 NJCAA First Team All-American (just one of two freshmen to earn First Team honors). Edwards also was recognized as the 2023 Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year and he received 2023 NJCAA DI National Tournament All-Tournament Team honors.
In three seasons of collegiate action, Edwards has scored 1,977 points in 102 games (19.4 ppg). He has made 245 three-point baskets during those three seasons.
