Los Angeles, CA — In an extraordinary act of compassion and community leadership, NHRA drag racing champion Brittany Force has announced a $25.5 million donation to transform her private California residence into a fully operational shelter for the homeless.
The Top Fuel star and two-time NHRA world champion made the announcement at a press conference outside her Los Angeles County estate, where she was joined by local officials, representatives from homelessness advocacy groups, and her family.
“I’ve spent much of my life going full throttle down the racetrack,” Force said. “But off the track, I’ve seen too many lives going nowhere — people without homes, families without safety. This shelter is my way of giving back, of using my platform to make a real difference.”
The donation will cover the full cost of renovation, staffing, and initial operations for what will be named The Force Haven, a comprehensive support center that will house up to 120 individuals at a time. The facility will offer temporary and transitional housing, mental health support, addiction recovery services, childcare for families, and job training programs.
Local nonprofit Homes First California will partner with Force to oversee the transformation, which is expected to be completed by late 2025.
Her family’s legacy in racing is well known, but this philanthropic move has cast Brittany Force in a different kind of spotlight — as a humanitarian. Her father, NHRA legend John Force, praised her initiative:
“She’s always had a big heart. What she’s doing here goes beyond racing. It’s about people, about compassion. I couldn’t be prouder.”
The house, originally built in the early 2000s and purchased by Brittany in 2018, spans over 12,000 square feet and sits on several acres. It will be repurposed to include shared living spaces, private rooms for families, a cafeteria, a wellness center, and a tech-equipped resource hub for education and employment training.
Reaction to the announcement has been overwhelmingly positive. NHRA fans, fellow drivers, and public figures took to social media to celebrate Force’s commitment to change. Even California Governor Gavin Newsom commented, calling the initiative “an inspiring example of how individual action can impact systemic issues.”
This isn’t the first time Brittany Force has engaged in social causes. Over the years, she’s quietly contributed to mental health and women’s support programs across the West Coast, but this is by far her most visible and impactful project yet.
“I’m fortunate — I’ve had opportunity, family, and a career I love,” Force said. “Now it’s time to use what I’ve built to lift others.”
As construction begins in the coming months, Force hopes the shelter becomes not just a safe haven, but a springboard for long-term change in how homelessness is addressed in California.
