Retired NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick and his wife, DeLana, were all smiles this week as they celebrated the official announcement of an upcoming Netflix documentary that will chronicle Harvick’s illustrious career, personal life, and lasting impact on the sport.
Titled “Closer: The Kevin Harvick Story,” the documentary will premiere in August 2025 and promises a never-before-seen look into the life of one of stock car racing’s most decorated drivers. The title pays tribute to Harvick’s nickname, “The Closer,” earned from his uncanny ability to seal victories in the final laps of races throughout his career.
Harvick, a 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion, amassed 60 career wins before retiring in 2023 and transitioning into a successful broadcasting career with FOX Sports. His story—from stepping into Dale Earnhardt’s legendary seat in 2001 to becoming one of the sport’s fiercest competitors—is one of resilience, determination, and unshakable focus.
Netflix announced the documentary Tuesday morning with a teaser video featuring archival footage, emotional interviews, and a voiceover from Harvick himself: “I never asked for the spotlight… but I never ran from it either.”
To celebrate the announcement, Kevin and DeLana hosted a private gathering at their home in North Carolina, attended by friends, family, and NASCAR figures including Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. The couple shared a toast, with DeLana posting a photo to Instagram captioned, “Forever proud. Your story is finally getting the spotlight it deserves. #TheCloserNetflix.”
The documentary, produced in partnership with NASCAR Productions and Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay, will delve into Harvick’s rise through the ranks, his fierce rivalries, and the family values that grounded him throughout a two-decade career.
“I didn’t do this for the fame. I did it because I loved to race,” Harvick said during the announcement event. “Now I get to tell that story — the whole story — with the people who mattered most by my side.”
Fans can expect interviews with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, and Harvick’s longtime crew chief Rodney Childers, along with behind-the-scenes footage from key races, emotional family moments, and exclusive reflections from Harvick himself.
“Closer: The Kevin Harvick Story” is slated for a global release on Netflix on August 16, 2025.
