The New York Yankees are going to be one of the most intriguing teams to watch over the next few months.
New York clearly is still looking to add despite already landing Devin Williams and Max Fried. The Yankees are looking for ways to improve after losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets. Rumors have been swirling and the Yankees have been talked about plenty. Chicago Cubs star Cody Bellinger is someone who continues to be brought up but he isn’t the only player out there.
There are plenty of options available for the Yankees on the trade market and in free agency. New York just has to continue to add.
To make additions, the Yankees may need to make some tough subtractions as well. FanSided’s Thomas Carannante made a list of players who could not return following the Williams and mentioned top pitching prospect Will Warren.
“The Cubs are believed to like Will Warren, who could be part of a future Cody Bellinger trade, as it’s been reported,” Carannante said. “The Yankees are also apparently unwilling to trade Luis Gil, which was reported after the Tucker deal went down between the Astros and Cubs. Though they traded Cortes to the Brewers in the Williams deal, that was more about offsetting salary and getting rid of a risky cost (Cortes was set to make $8.3 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility and will be a free agent in 2026). Additionally, he just dealt with a forearm strain down the stretch, so that’s a ticking time bomb in some form…
“Warren lost some of his luster when he got rocked last year, but prospect evaluators still like him and he’d carry decent value in a trade.”
He is New York’s No. 5 overall prospect and is just 25 years old. Could he be on his way out of the organization this offseason?
