South Carolina Gamecocks HC Shane Beamer must be extremely proud of his program. November 16, turned out to be one lucky day as they crushed Missouri Tigers 34-30. But looks like someone is not proud of Beamer. That’s none other than the Barstool Sports superstar Brandon Walker who even landed them an “average” tag. Well, he is not wrong! After all, South Carolina’s offense is among the nation’s worst three categories. Not only this, but their ball security too is a mega mess-up. However, another CFB analyst confronted him taking Gamecocks’ side. But Walker is a tough nut to crack and stand by his words. After all, the program’s struggle is real since the Tigers face-off also witnessed some of Beamer’s mistakes. But thank god did not cost them the win.
The Gamecocks unlocked their fourth straight SEC win beating the No.24 Missouri on Saturday. Well, this might change the narrative of how Beamer’s boys started this season. They lost to LSU Tigers 36-33, followed by two back-to-back blows by Ole Miss Rebels 27-3 and Alabama Crimson Tide 27-25. During the initial weeks, they allowed 13 sacks for minus 103 yards and dropped them to the last rank in SEC, No.16. Beamer also struggled with their passing offense, averaging 147.3 passing yards per game. So now you know where Walker comes from when he dished out his bold claim, “The biggest lie that the national media guys have tried to sell you lately is that South Carolina is good.”
Well, he did not stop at this and even thought of giving them a brutal tag, “They are a thoroughly average team.” But hold on! Beamer too had a supporter who took a stand for the No.23 program. And that was CBS Sports analyst Josh Pate who retweeted Walker’s tweet with the caption, “I screenshat this just in case.” Looks like Pate is dead sure about Beamer and the boys making a dramatic turnaround. Did this lead Walker to take back his words? Not at all!
Rather the Barstool Sports big shot threw an open challenge commenting below Pate’s tweet, “It’s still true.” Maybe, he is taking into account how Beamer faltered with his HC role even after three back-to-back mishaps.
Shane Beamer’s questionable calls in crunch times
South Carolina’s November 16 win against Missouri marked their first win in FIVE YEARS. The Gamecocks had a pretty smooth ride as they glided into the halftime with a 21-6 lead. While it already looked like things were under South Carolina’s control, Beamer being Beamer had to make the game harder for his boys.
In the first half, his offense was firing on all the cylinders as the signal-caller LaNorris Sellers was able to find guys open downfield. The defense had been equally good as they gave the Brady Cook-led offense a hard time by limiting them to just six points in the first half. But the third quarter turned the tables as the Gamecocks struggled to score. As the Tigers ended their drives scoring some points without putting the ball in the endzone, South Carolina was left confused, Why though?
That’s because their HC Shane Beamer himself is struggling to understand the concept. During the second half, when the Gamecocks offense turned the ball over on downs for the second time, the HC decided to go for it on fourth down in his own territory. And BOOM! This was enough to rejuvenate Missouri’s offense. Maybe, it’s high time that Beamer brushes his lessons on field goals and punts!
