Brisbane, QLD – May 3, 2025
In a significant shake-up ahead of the 2025 season, the Brisbane Football Club has officially confirmed the departure of two key players, marking the end of an era for the club. Midfield stalwart Jack Redman and forward dynamo Liam Faulkner will both part ways with the team, the club announced in a press statement this morning.
Redman, 30, has been a cornerstone of Brisbane’s midfield for nearly a decade. Known for his leadership, tenacity, and elite ball-winning ability, Redman played over 180 games in maroon and gold, earning two club best-and-fairest awards and serving as vice-captain since 2021. His departure, reportedly by mutual agreement, is believed to be part of the club’s broader list refresh strategy.
“Jack has been the heart of this club for years,” head coach Nathan Bardsley said. “His professionalism, work ethic, and leadership set the standard for everyone around him. While we’re sad to see him go, we respect his decision and thank him for everything he’s given to this club.”
Meanwhile, Faulkner, 25, is set to pursue opportunities overseas after a breakout 2024 season that saw him kick 38 goals and become a fan favorite with his flashy playing style and game-winning flair. Though only in his fifth AFL season, Faulkner’s impact was immense, and his move abroad has surprised many within the football community.
“Playing for Brisbane has been the highlight of my career so far,” Faulkner said in a video message to fans. “But I’ve always dreamed of testing myself internationally, and this felt like the right time. I’ll always be grateful for the support from the club and the incredible Brisbane fans.”
Club officials emphasized that while the loss of two such influential players is significant, the move opens the door for emerging talent to step into larger roles. The Lions are expected to be active in the upcoming trade period and draft, aiming to bolster their squad with fresh energy and depth.
Brisbane CEO Amelia Scott addressed supporters directly, saying, “We know fans will be disappointed, but we are building for sustained success. Jack and Liam leave with our full support, and we’re excited for what the future holds.”
The departures mark a pivotal moment for Brisbane as the club looks to rebuild following a frustrating 2024 campaign that fell short of finals expectations. With a focus now firmly on youth development and strategic recruitment, the Lions are signaling a bold new chapter in their journey.
