NASCAR is all about legacies and those epic father-son duos. Be it Dale Earnhardt Sr and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Bill Elliott and Chase Elliott, or Lee Petty and Richard Petty, the list is long. And while in all these cases, both drove or still drive for NASCAR, there’s one duo that’s an exception to this.
Austin Cindric and his father, Tim Cindric. For 25 years, Tim was the president of Team Penske. In fact, it won’t be wrong to call him Roger Penske’s right-hand man, looking after all the day-to-day operations of the team. However, he’s recently stepped down from that role, and this has probably made room in his schedule to try something new.
Tim Cindric Is Joining the Fox Booth for the Next IndyCar Race
After the news of Tim Cindric stepping down as president of the NASCAR operation, there’s finally some exciting news in the Cindric household. First, Austin Cindric bagged Team Penske’s first win of the season at the recent Talladega race. Now, Tim Cindric is gearing up for this new role.
In a recent X post, Team Penske shared, “Calling all the action. Tim Cindric will join the
@IndyCarOnFOX @INDYNXT booth as a guest analyst at Barber on Sunday.” Basically, Tim Cindric will be calling the “Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix” at Barber Motorsports Park.
This would also be the first time that the 59-year-old will be in the booth. So far in his career, he’s always been in Team Penske’s management role. His duties have typically included looking after all racing operations and acting as a race strategist for Josef Newgarden. While Tim is still the president of Team Penske’s IndyCar side of things, the booth ought to be an exciting first for him.
Maybe calling a race was on his bucket list that he missed. Remember when, after stepping down, he had said, “Really tough few days having to let those I’ve worked so close with to achieve so much know that I need to make a change that reprioritises some areas of my life. The journey I’ve been on has been amazing, but it’s time for me to catch up on some things that I’ve missed in life along the way.”
There isn’t clarity if Tim Cindric will be the fourth guy in the Fox booth or if Townsend Bell will sit this one out. So far in the season, Will Buxton and James Hinchcliffe have handled the play-by-play, while Bell acted as the race analyst.
Many feel that Austin has a decent personality and is good on the microphone. If he learned that from his father, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see Tim shine this weekend.
