BREAKING: Duke Blue Devils Basketball Coach Jon Scheyer Launches “A Hope Rising Foundation” to Transform the Lives of Children with Disabilities — Providing Free Healthcare, Basic Needs, and Endless Love to the Kids of Durham County — What an Angel in Human Form

Durham, North Carolina — In a deeply moving and purpose-driven gesture that reaches far beyond basketball, Duke Blue Devils Head Coach Jon Scheyer has announced the launch of “A Hope Rising Foundation”—a powerful new initiative committed to transforming the lives of children with disabilities throughout Durham County.

In an emotional press conference held at Duke University Medical Center on Friday, Scheyer stood before a crowd of families, athletes, and community leaders to unveil the foundation’s mission: to provide free healthcare services, daily essentials, educational support, mobility assistance, therapy programs, and a constant outpouring of unconditional love and dignity to children living with disabilities and their families.

> “I’ve always believed coaching is about more than basketball,” Scheyer said, his voice cracking with emotion. “It’s about building people, uplifting communities, and making sure no child feels forgotten or less-than. ‘A Hope Rising Foundation’ is about giving these amazing kids the love, support, and resources they so deeply deserve.”

Backed by Scheyer’s personal funding, alumni donors, and strategic partnerships with Duke Health, the foundation has already begun delivering impact. Plans include the launch of mobile pediatric clinics for homebound children, specialized therapy centers, sensory-friendly learning programs, and family counseling services across Durham County.

The first major milestone? The groundbreaking of the Hope Rising Wellness and Support Center, scheduled to open in early 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced medical treatment rooms, inclusive play zones, special education classrooms, and spaces where families can rest, regroup, and recover together—at no cost.

Local mother Janice Hall, whose 5-year-old daughter suffers from a rare neurological condition, called Scheyer’s announcement “a miracle.”

> “Coach Scheyer didn’t just see our kids—he believed in them. This foundation gives families like mine hope we never thought we’d have,” she said, fighting back tears.

Current and former Duke players, many of whom were in attendance, pledged their full support—offering to volunteer, mentor, and raise awareness as ambassadors of the cause. Several described the initiative as “Coach Scheyer’s greatest assist yet.”

Duke President Vincent Price hailed the foundation as a defining moment for the university:

> “Jon Scheyer is more than a coach—he’s a servant leader. ‘A Hope Rising Foundation’ reflects everything Duke stands for: excellence, compassion, and community impact.”

Social media erupted with gratitude, with hashtags like #HopeRisingDurham, #ScheyerTheShepherd, and #AngelInBlue trending across the state. Thousands praised the coach’s heart, saying he had truly redefined what it means to be a Blue Devil.

> “Wins and trophies are part of the journey,” Scheyer said. “But changing lives? That’s the real championship. And for these kids, we’re just getting started.”

As the Duke basketball program prepares for its next season, its head coach is already making history—not just with wins on the court, but with a legacy of compassion, service, and hope that will last long after the final buzzer sounds.

Jon Scheyer: More Than a Coach. A Guardian of Dreams. A Builder of Hope. A True Angel in Human Form.
